We're planning another trip this fall and were wondering if there were any gay clubs in the area. I realize Elizabethton is a bit small for that but remember hearing something about a club in Johnson City. Are there any gay clubs in the area? The only one I know of is New Beginnings. It's down right past where N Roan St.

K's bookstore; take the right fork and it's before the first red light. There used to be Pharaoh's downtown but it's closed. It might be worth the trip down to Knoxville to Carousel or over to Asheville shorter drive time. New Beginnings is the only gay bar left in JC but it's quite popular and honestly I enjoy going there.

The crowd is friendly and mixed, if you want a crowd Saturday's are the best night to go.

Gay Bar in Friendship (Tennessee)

It's packed up there on a saturday night. Im moving down in about a year from NYC. I am from Greeneville, born and raised, but left after high school to attend college here. Once I arrived here I came out. Living in New York as a young gay man is easy, there are plenty of single guys and venues in which to socialize.

I am a little afraid that when I return to TN I'll have trouble finding friends, and eventually finding a boyfriend. Can anyone offer any advice or personal experiences? How is the environment and "scene" for young gay men mid to late 20's in east TN? I realize Knoxville may be a better choice, but Im not living there.

I'm a young 21 gay man in Johnson City. My 1 suggestion is to avoid moving back to Greeneville. Unless you're moving back in with your parents, it's going to be far easier on you to live in Johnson City. Coincidentally, I'm also from Greeneville, lol.
